Is there a New Year's Eve party at the Brandenburg Gate (Brandenburger Tor) in 2026?

The Berlin NYE party at the Brandenburg Gate (Brandenburger Tor) is planned again for the turn of 2026/27, with free entry, DJs and fireworks. As of 21 October 2026, no detailed programme had been announced. Watch the Kulturprojekte Berlin website for confirmed information.

The long-running ZDF broadcast at the Gate ended after Berlin withdrew its funding and the private organiser cancelled its event. ZDF is not planning a show from the Gate for 2026/27 and intends to screen a special edition of “Quiz-Champion” instead.

The 2025/26 edition opened for admission at 21:30, with arrival before 23:00 recommended, and the DJ party began at 22:00. A 7.5-minute fireworks display took place over the Quadriga at midnight before the event closed at 01:00.

Tickets for that edition were free, online only and personalised, with photo ID checked at entry. This year’s ticket arrangements and release dates have yet to be published.

ARD carried the 2025/26 fireworks and show live, but that does not confirm a television broadcast for the coming event.

Visitors passed through bag checks. Large bags, backpacks, glass bottles, outside food, alcohol and fireworks were prohibited, while small handbags and waist bags were permitted. The official Berlin entry and closure information set out these rules.

S+U Brandenburger Tor closed from 16:00 during the 2025/26 event, with entry routes from Ebertstraße, Straße des 17. Juni and Yitzhak-Rabin-Straße. Roads around the event area also closed in stages.

A weapons and knife ban covered Brandenburger Tor, Straße des 17. Juni and Großer Stern from 18:00 until 06:00 in 2025/26.

How do you get to the Brandenburger Tor and back to the hotel on New Year's Eve?

Habyt Berlin Waterfront is 5 to 7 minutes on foot from Ostkreuz and about 6 minutes from S Rummelsburg. Ostkreuz is the more useful starting point for travelling towards central Berlin because several S-Bahn lines serve the station.

On an ordinary day, the journey from Ostkreuz to S+U Brandenburger Tor takes around 18 to 20 minutes. Typical routes use the S3, S5 or S7 to Friedrichstraße, followed by a same-station transfer for the final stop.

For the 2025/26 celebration, S+U Brandenburger Tor was closed from 16:00. Visitors could leave the train at Friedrichstraße and walk around 14 minutes to the Gate. The route is approximately 1.03 km.

The S-Bahn ran continuously through that night. The S1, S2, S25, S3, S46, S47, S5, S7, S75, S8 and S9 operated every 20 minutes, while the S41 and S42 ring lines ran every 10 minutes. A normal Sunday timetable resumed at around 09:00 on 1 January.

Ostkreuz is served by the S3, S41, S42, S5, S7, S8, S9 and S85. The relevant lines were part of the all-night service pattern, making Ostkreuz a practical hub for returning after midnight.

The U-Bahn also ran through the night in 2025/26 on every line except the U4, although central closures and diversions affected journeys. Check BVG service information and the S-Bahn Berlin journey planner shortly before travelling because the 2026/27 timetable may differ.

When you return, the front desk at Habyt Berlin Waterfront is staffed 24/7. Express and self check-in are available for arrivals outside standard hours.

Where are fireworks restricted in Berlin?

Berlin creates restricted zones for New Year’s Eve, but the locations and hours need to be checked for each edition. In 2025/26, firework and weapons restrictions applied at Alexanderplatz, Steinmetzkiez, parts of Sonnenallee and nearby streets, the area around Admiralbrücke, and the Brandenburger Tor area extending along Straße des 17. Juni towards Großer Stern.

Within those zones, category F2, F3 and F4 pyrotechnics and illegal fireworks were banned from 18:00 on 31 December until 06:00 on 1 January. Category F1 products, including sparklers, remained permitted.

Other districts used time restrictions during the same edition. Private fireworks in Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg, Reinickendorf, Pankow and Marzahn-Hellersdorf were limited to the period from 18:00 to 07:00. No restriction was listed for the Rummelsburg area.

Germany’s national rules also limit the retail sale of category F2 fireworks to the final three working days of the year. Buyers must be at least 18, and these fireworks may be used only outdoors during New Year’s Eve night.

The same entry rules as the main event above applied.

Check Berlin’s official notices close to 31 December before buying or using fireworks. Restrictions can cover pyrotechnics, knives and other weapons, with different rules applying inside organised event areas.

Stay by the Rummelsburger See for New Year

A calmer New Year’s Eve and plans for 1 January

If the central celebration feels too busy, you can keep the evening local. The Paul-und-Paula-Ufer beside the Rummelsburger See is around 5 minutes on foot from Habyt Berlin Waterfront. It is a nearby place for a low-key walk, without official status as a fireworks viewing location.

Treptower Park is around 15 minutes away on foot when entering near its S-Bahn station and Puschkinallee. For more ideas around the water and Ostkreuz, use the guide to the area around the hotel.

You can also prepare dinner in your studio. Every Urban Studio and Bay Studio has a kitchenette, and shared fully equipped kitchens are available in the property. See the Habyt Berlin Waterfront studios before choosing your stay.

Teufelsberg’s paid Field Station is closed on 31 December every year, so it is unavailable for a New Year’s Eve visit. The separate Berliner Silvesterlauf uses public forest routes around Teufelsberg and neighbouring hills during the day.

The 2026 Berliner Silvesterlauf is scheduled for 31 December, with several routes starting and finishing opposite Mommsenstadion. Its start time and entry fee had not been announced.

On 1 January, most Berlin shops are legally closed for the public holiday. Limited exceptions can include bakeries, flower and dairy shops, petrol stations, pharmacies, and shops at stations or airports.

Berlin’s state museums opened later on New Year’s Day during the 2025/26 holiday period, generally from 12:00. Treat those hours as the most recent pattern and confirm the 2027 opening times before visiting.

The Berliner Neujahrslauf is confirmed for 1 January 2027 at 12:00, starting and finishing at the Brandenburg Gate. The approximately 4 km run follows Unter den Linden towards Berlin Cathedral before returning, and no registration is required. Full details are available on the official Berlin New Year’s Run page.
